CASHMERE MIST by Donna Karan

WHAT IT IS: a sheer floral scent with essences of jasmine, lily of the valley and bergamot with undertones of sandalwood, amber and musk.

WHAT WE THOUGHT:
Leigh: Much too strong. This is way over the top. I keep getting images of Joan Rivers in my head.
Laura: This smells like women's deodorant, so why bother? Sleek bottle, though.
L2: I really liked this! It's soft, feminine, innocent, and flirty.
Shawn: No offense, Leigh, but this reminds me of those scented oils they sell on the subway.
Leigh: Wait a minute. What makes you think I use THOSE?
Peter:
It reminds me of D-CON. There's something very synthetic about it.
E.R.: Two words: Dial Soap.
Leigh: WHAT THE HELL MAKES YOU THINK I USE THOSE OILS??

POTION by Prescriptives

WHAT IT IS: a floral fragrance with notes of watermelon, mandarin, apple, lily of the valley, and dianthus flower.

WHAT WE THOUGHT:
Laura: This is a good everyday perfume for spring and summer. It's light and airy.
Shawn: This is nice and breezy, not very intimate though.
L2: This is totally unappealing. I wouldn't clean my windows with it.
Peter: I could see the kind of woman who wears this as being the kind of woman who wears WAY too much perfume.
E.R.: This smells like something someone would use to clean their floors.
L2: But definitely NOT their windows.
Leigh: Too strong, period.

GREEN TEA AQUA FLAUNT by Stila

WHAT IT IS: A sparkling, fragrant body splash that delivers scent, color and shimmer with the moisturizing benefits of a dry oil.

WHAT WE THOUGHT:
Peter: You'll get carpal tunnel syndrome just by trying to shake the ingredients together. Not bad, but I've smelled nicer green tea fragrances. This is worth it more for the sparkle than the smell.
E.R.: The sparkles add an unusual touch. Funny, this smelled like paint in the bottle, but it's actually quite a delicate scent.
L2: The fact that you have to mix this stuff up turns me off -- like I'm going to remember this getting ready for a date? It reminds me of Glade Air Freshener.
Shawn: What's with the mixing? Please complete the pharmacology PRIOR to packaging, thank you. This smells like green Life Savers.
Leigh: This mixing is too much work. It's a nice, light scent, but unimpressive.
Laura: Nice scent, cool shimmer, but it's so light I wouldn't bother except to get the shimmery effect. And I LIKE green tea!

JIL by Jil Sander

WHAT IT IS: a woody oriental scent with notes of lavender, raspberry, fresh herbs, cedar, vetiver, iris, and violet.

WHAT WE THOUGHT:
E.R.: Very masculine for a women's fragrance. It's urban and sophisticated. A nice bottle design too -- the offset bottle top is a nice touch.
Laura: What a cute bottle! This has scents that you can actually pick out individually. This is a perfect scent for any occasion, and it might make the man in your life ask to smell your neck over and over again.
Peter: This is my favorite women's scent so far. It's subtle and sophisticated -- it draws you in without overpowering you, just like a sexy woman.
Shawn: You really want to get close to the woman wearing this one.
L2: This is appealing, spicy and attractive. It's a fragrance for a strong, independent, confident woman.
Leigh: Very spicy, very sexy, very cool.

COOL WATER FOR WOMEN by Davidoff

WHAT IT IS: a floral scent with sixteen notes including citrus, quince, black currant, pineapple, and honeydew.

WHAT WE THOUGHT:
Leigh: This is a nice, airy scent, not too overpowering.
Peter: Light and feminine. A great summer fragrance, very romantic and very nice.
L2: Kind of soapy. I personally wouldn't wear this.
E.R.: This is like a summer fruit salad, light and citrusy.
Shawn: Not bad, but not even close to Cool Water For Men in terms of impact. It doesn't invoke passions like a perfume should.
Laura: This is a fairly light scent appropriate for summer and spring, or when you don't want to overwhelm the crowd. I used to wear this and still would.

BOUDOIR by Vivienne Westwood

WHAT IT IS: a floral fragrance with notes of viburnum, marigold, rose, orris, and orange blossom, to name but a few.

WHAT WE THOUGHT:
Laura: This smells like the exterminator got into the perfume business; it's way too sweet and way too strong.
Shawn: This is very unspectacular. It smells and looks like snobbery. I'll pass.
Leigh: This smells like scented talcum powder.
L2: I really like this. It smells like candy, but the kind of candy one uses to get men to follow them home.
E.R.: This bottle design is dangerous. This is fruity and candy-like, but it fades into a powdery, feminine scent. A classic feminine scent from a VERY un-classic designer.
Peter: This is oppressively feminine. I like feminine scents on women, but this is trying way too hard.

DKNY by Donna Karan

WHAT IT IS: a floral fragrance built on notes of mandarin orange, vodka, waterlilies, orchids, daffodils, birch and tulip tree bark.

WHAT WE THOUGHT:
E.R.: Great packaging; it's sleek and smooth. Very masculine for a women's scent.
Shawn: This smells more like a deodorant soap than a perfume (see Irish Spring).
Leigh: For some reason it reminds me of Donna Pescow from Saturday Night Fever.
Laura: It smells like Tom Kha Khai (That's a variety of Thai soup -- ed.). It's too weird to wear as a scent, unless, of course, you're hungry.
Peter: This smells like GoJo, that stuff mechanics use to clean their hands.
L2: This smells like Lemon Pledge. I still wouldn't dust my furniture with it, though.
Leigh: What is it with you and cleaning your apartment?
